Give a Goat

Meet Nuala: How Your Gift of a Goat Funded Her Schooling and Built Her Family a New Home

Because of your support, Nuala raised a herd of six goats, enabling her to sell offspring to cover term fees and build a new brick house.

Nuala is the oldest of seven children growing up in rural eastern Uganda. Because her mother struggled to pay for school supplies and term fees, Nuala often had to miss school. Frustrated, falling further and further behind her peers, Nuala felt hopeless and nearly made the difficult decision to drop out of school entirely.

Everything changed when she was selected to receive a healthy, fertile goat through Global Village Connect’s Give a Goat program.

Staggering multiplication leads to stable income

Nuala’s family dedicated themselves to caring for the goat. Over time, the goat gave birth to kids, and through careful husbandry, their single goat multiplied into a thriving herd of six goats.

For the last two years, this herd has served as a reliable bank account for Nuala’s education. At the beginning of every school term, the family sells a goat to cover the precise costs of Nuala’s school fees and required learning supplies, keeping her consistently in the classroom.

“I am so grateful for my goats; they have been a blessing to my family. They have brought the hope of having shelter and paying my school fees.”

— Nuala

Building a new home from goat sales

In May, Nuala and her family achieved an extraordinary milestone. By selling four goats from their herd, they raised enough capital to cover both Nuala’s ongoing school fees and purchase building materials, including brick and iron sheets, to construct a small, secure, one room brick house.

Today, Nuala still has two mature goats in her care. As these goats produce more offspring, they will continue to provide Nuala and her seven siblings with a greatly needed, reliable source of income, academic stability, and hope for a brighter future.
