Take Action / Volunteer
Your time, skills, or willingness make all the difference.
You can help expand GVC's impact, whether you give an hour of social media support from home or teach for a month in Uganda. Discover the volunteer role that fits your life.
Roles We're Actively Looking For
Each role below is something we genuinely need right now. No vague "join the cause" volunteering, as GVC will let you know what is asked of you and what you will see in return.
Social Media & Storytelling
You can transform raw stories and photos from the field into engaging Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn posts that connect directly with supporters. GVC coordinates the raw material while you bring the editorial eye.
Grant Writing
If you have experience writing successful foundation grants, you can help GVC secure critical institutional funding. Your expertise will target small-to-mid family foundations.
Event & Fundraiser Support
You can support annual fundraisers, donor appreciation events, and community gatherings in the Twin Cities area. Assist with setup, hospitality, and meaningful donor conversations.
Skilled Volunteer (Pro Bono)
As a professional lawyer, accountant, web designer, photographer, video editor, or copywriter, your pro bono skills directly support the mission. You can contribute your expertise to specific project-based needs.
Teaching at Buyanga Primary
If you are traveling to Uganda, or if you would like to combine teaching with a service trip, Buyanga Primary welcomes your support. You can teach math, English, science, or music for one to four weeks.
Field Trip Volunteer
Join the annual November service trip to Uganda. You can support local teams with logistics, photography, donor relations on the ground, and storytelling.
You're not "extra help." You're part of the team.
Our volunteers regularly become long-term partners, joining the board, leading trips, or running campaigns. Because the organization is small, your contribution is directly visible with no busywork.
If you are willing to help, you will receive real projects that make a direct difference. The first conversation is a relaxed 20-minute call about what you would like to offer and how it aligns with current needs.
Before you reach out
Do I need experience working with nonprofits?
No. We need people with skills, willingness, and judgment, which come from anywhere. Volunteers from advertising, education, finance, medicine, and those with zero prior nonprofit experience have all stepped in and added real value.
Can I volunteer remotely from outside Minnesota or Uganda?
Absolutely. Most of our US volunteer roles are fully remote. We have volunteers in California, New York, across the US and the world contributing on a regular cadence.
Is in-Uganda volunteering paid? Do you cover travel?
Our in-Uganda volunteers are self-funded, as GVC is a small nonprofit and cannot subsidize travel. You will receive coordination support, accommodation guidance, and on-the-ground introductions. Many volunteers combine teaching with the annual November service trip.
I'm an educator. How is volunteering different from "Get Your School Involved"?
Volunteering is for you as an individual. "Get Your School Involved" is when you bring your whole classroom, including curriculum, service learning, and fundraising, into partnership. They often go together.
How quickly will I hear back after applying?
Within one business week. Volunteers are how the work grows, and GVC takes your application seriously and responds promptly.
Ready to share your time and skills?
Tell us about yourself, your background, and how you would like to get involved. We will set up a relaxed 20-minute call to find the perfect fit.
