Meet Moshe: How Your Gift of Two Goats Put His Children Back in School

Because of you, Moshe raised goats and sold offspring to pay school fees for his children, sending them back to class.

Moshe has been farming from sunup to sunset for as long as he can remember.

He does it in order to feed and provide for his four children: Shivum, 14; Haimu, 12; Tamali, 4; and baby Musibika, who is only four months old.

But in rural Uganda, farming is a constant gamble against the elements. Last season, the weather was unforgiving. Farming was not good, leaving barely enough crops for the family to eat and absolutely no surplus to sell at the market.

Because of this, Moshe struggled deeply to raise the funds needed to pay school fees for his older children. Without school fees, they had to stay home.

The gift of a goat changes the equation

Through Global Village Connect’s goat program, Moshe’s family received a pregnant goat. The goat did more than just provide milk; it gave Moshe a source of savings and asset generation.

Recently, Moshe’s goat produced three healthy offspring. This sudden increase in his livestock herd provided him with a vital economic lifeline when his crops failed. Moshe was recently able to sell two of his four goats, providing him with the immediate cash necessary to pay school fees and send Shivum and Haimu back to school.

Healthier children and a brighter outlook

In addition to funding school fees, the goats are providing highly nutritious goat milk for the younger children, Tamali and baby Musibika, helping them grow strong and healthy.

Moshe now looks at his growing herd not just as animals, but as the keys to his children’s education and future. He hopes his goats will continue to have more babies, which remain critical for keeping his children in the classroom.

“I am the lucky winner because my goat has produced three offspring! Look at my kids, they have drank goat milk and now they are very healthy.”
