JJ is lucky. He has a mother and father and four siblings. But his parents are uneducated and cannot find work, so they live as subsistence farmers.
Subsistence farming is tough. Drought comes, food becomes scarcer. It can be especially hard for families who have no other source of income , like JJ’s family.
A goat changes everything
The good news: JJ’s goat is pregnant. His goat is having more than one kid, and JJ is hoping she gives birth to three , one to keep, one to sell, and one to give away to someone else in need.
JJ’s family will use the money from selling the goat milk and offspring to pay for school, books, food, and clothes. Plus, JJ and his siblings will have goat milk that’s highly nutritious and contains essential vitamins and minerals.
