Meet Sarah: How Your Boarding Scholarship Puts Nursing Dreams Within Reach for an Orphaned Girl

Because of you, Sarah received a secondary boarding scholarship at Kisiki College to study and chase her dream of becoming a nurse.

Sarah Sabano grew up living with her uncle in rural eastern Uganda. While he generously provided her with food and basic shelter, he unfortunately could not afford the fees and supplies required to send her to school.

Sarah’s educational journey seemed cut short before it could even begin.

Everything changed when she received a primary school scholarship from Global Village Connect.

A crucial primary school foundation

GVC’s scholarship program supported Sarah consistently throughout her primary school years, allowing her to stay in the classroom and excel academically.

Today, that stable foundation has carried her into secondary school. Sarah is now a Senior One student (9th grade) boarding at Kisiki College, one of the region’s respected secondary schools.

“My scholarship gave me a chance to go to school and concentrate on my studies. Because I stay in the boarding school, I have light to read by at night and three meals to eat every day. I am working hard to ensure that I excel and become a nurse.”

Breaking the cycle of poverty

At Global Village Connect, we do far more than simply write checks for school fees. We offer comprehensive, ongoing support, regularly checking in with students like Sarah and helping them overcome systemic challenges when their families cannot.

Most children in our Ugandan partner communities come from homes where completing education beyond the sixth grade is extremely rare. For many young girls like Sarah, a secondary school scholarship is their single, vital chance to break the multi generational cycle of poverty and build a brighter, self sufficient future.
