Meet Annet: How Your Scholarship Rescued a Girl from Domestic Labor and Opened a Path to Nursing School

Because of you, Annet returned to school consistently, found stability, and is now preparing for national exams to enter nursing school.

Annet lost her mother at a very young age. With her father rarely around, she experienced a highly unstable childhood, being passed continually between extended family members who struggled to support her.

Sadly, to earn her keep, Annet became a child laborer. Instead of going to school with other children her age, she spent her days cleaning houses. Struggling to stay in school and seeking a safe haven, Annet eventually moved in with her grandmother to serve as her primary caretaker.

Everything changed when Global Village Connect stepped in with an academic scholarship.

A safe space to learn and grow

With GVC’s support, the constant disruptions to Annet’s childhood came to an end. For the first time, she was able to attend school consistently, focus deeply on her studies, and build healthy, lasting friendships without the fear of being sent home due to unpaid fees.

The security of a stable education has given Annet a profound sense of hope and independence.

“I am very grateful for this scholarship because it has given me a purpose in life. I will not be like the other village girls whose sole purpose is to be a wife and mother.”

Sights set on nursing school

Now a confident young woman, Annet is focusing on her future. This November, she will sit for her national exams, with her sights set on enrolling in nursing school.

What was once a distant dream is now a tangible reality within reach, made possible by GVC donors who believed in her potential.
