Resilience in Kwania: How Your Support Provided a Silage Machine to Secure Herd Nutrition

Because of you, Kwania Goat Farm acquired a gas-powered silage machine to ensure nutritious feeds for the herd year-round.

The Kwania Goat Farm, collectively owned and run by seventeen local families, has taken a massive leap forward in agricultural sustainability and resilience!

Through your generous support, the cooperative has successfully purchased a brand new, gas powered silage machine. This innovative equipment marks a critical transition from basic animal husbandry to a highly efficient, sustainable commercial business.

Game changing tech for dry seasons

This state of the art machinery is already making an incredible difference on the ground. It allows our cooperative members to easily crush, grind, and store dry feeds and agricultural by products in bulk.

In rural Uganda, pasture land is severely limited, and dry seasons are notoriously harsh. Without proper feed storage, goats can quickly lose weight, fall ill, or fail to reach their commercial potential.

With the new gas powered silage machine, the farm can now guarantee a steady, highly nutritious, and predictable food supply for our foundation herd, completely independent of seasonal weather swings.

This technological upgrade is essential for keeping our growing herd of goats healthy and ensuring they reach their target sale weights in time for major holiday markets, boosting both farm profitability and long term economic sustainability.

Tending the future herd

The timing of this purchase could not be better. With Kwania’s nursery pens buzzing with seven healthy young kids and several pregnant mother goats expected to deliver soon, securing high quality nutrition is our top priority.

By grinding local grasses, crop residues, and supplementary feeds, the silage machine ensures every mother has rich milk and every young kid grows up strong and active.

In their own words

Farm Manager Joram Ben Isaac highlights the profound community pride and operational relief brought by this technological milestone:

“This silage machine is an absolute game changer for Kwania! We can now prepare and stock enough high quality feed to keep our goats healthy and growing at a steady rate, regardless of how harsh the dry season gets. We are no longer at the mercy of unpredictable weather.” – Joram Ben Isaac, Farm Manager

Your incredible generosity is helping Kwania build a stronger, more resilient cooperative farm, one that feeds more families, grows more local opportunities, and continues to thrive all year round.
