My name is Florence Kaliza, a 37 year old mother of seven. For many years I was a stay at home wife, depending entirely on my husband to provide for our family. When I heard about a business training through my local council, he encouraged me to attend so I could gain knowledge and find a way to contribute to our household.
During the training organized by Global Village Connect, I was inspired to start something small of my own. I learned that I did not need much to begin, only determination and the willingness to try. With a new sense of purpose, I decided to work for my own starting capital.
I began doing casual labor, digging wherever I could find work, and slowly saved 20,000 shillings. With that money, I started a small grocery business from my home, selling basic items like sugar, soap, and salt. Though the business is modest, it now earns me about 2,000 shillings a day.
Today, I can buy household necessities without waiting for my husband, and I feel proud to support my family. My dream is to grow this business and one day open a retail shop.
